Bricklayer is a classic puzzle game released for Windows 3.1 in the early 1990s, inspired by the traditional brick-matching logic puzzles found in magazines. Players are presented with a grid and numeric clues that indicate how many bricks must be filled in each row and column. Using deduction rather than guesswork, the objective is to reveal a hidden picture by correctly placing or marking bricks. The game’s clean interface and mouse-driven controls made it well suited to Windows 3.1 systems. Bricklayer is praised for its relaxing pace, logical challenge, and timeless puzzle design that remains engaging today.
Keyboard control is customizable with the Change Keys... menu item. The numeric keypad keys are active as control keys in addition to any user-selectable settings. The default user-selectable keyboard settings are the 'j', 'k', and 'l' keys for left, rotate, and right motion, and the spacebar for the drop. The 'a' key controls the push.
On the numeric keypad, the 4, 5, 6, and 0 act the same as the j, k, l, and space.
